Steve Jobs and His 3 Stories

Suddenly i really really want to copy-pasting some sentences from Steve Jobs (CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation). I just read the long-version of his speech on 2005, in front of the students of one of the finest university in the world. I copy here from @benakribo' tumblr. Am i too late to post about Steve Jobs? I don't think so. His books is now still being a bestseller book in Gramedia and others. It means his success is inspiring so many people in the world, now and may be for years ahead.

In that opportunity, Steve Jobs told about his own three stories, and i wanna share to you shortly.
1. The first story was about Connecting the Dots.
He told about his dropped-out education from university that made him to join the calligraphy class in Reed College that finally made him as a builder of Macintosh Computer that have a beautiful typography :) He never regret his past.
"You cant connect the dot's looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. SO YOU HAVE TO TRUST THAT THE DOTS WILL SOMEHOW CONNECT IN YOUR FUTURE. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

2. The second story was about Love and Loss.
He found his lucky of "doing something he loved", build the Apple company. Although he fired from it later.
"I WAS LUCKY. I FOUND WHAT I LOVED TO DO EARLY IN LIFE. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20... We had just released our finest creation (the Macintosh) a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And I got fired."


After he fired from his own company, he started again as a beginner, but it made him enter the new period of his life.
"The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. IT FREED ME TO ENTER ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE PERIODS OF MY LIFE."
"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I love what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. AND THE ONLY WAY TO DO GREAT WORK IS TO LOVE WHAT YOU DO. IF YOU HAVEN'T FOUND IT YET, KEEP LOOKING. DON'T SETTLE. As with all the matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."

3. The third story was about Death.
In 2004, doctor diagnosed him with cancer. There's tumor on his pancreas. He was counting days in 3 to six months, as his doctor said, bcoz his cancer was type of incurable disease. But he stayed alive longer. 
"Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment of failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. REMEMBERING THAT YOU ARE GOING TO DIE IS THE BEST WAY I KNOW TO AVOID THE TRAP OF THINKING YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO LOSE. YOU ARE ALREADY NAKED. THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART."

That is the three stories about Steve Jobs. Hope we can take the "message" of his speech:
  • Go on with your passion. You will see the pattern of your hard work after someday you reach something and look back. Then you can say: "Oh, I did it. I know now what God wants from me few years ago."
  • Find what you love to do. If you couldn't found it yet, keep looking, don't settle. And if you found it, love what you do.
  • Everyone will die. What a pity if we just think from other's point of view without follow our heart. Make your decision about your own life, make your story, reach your goals, and prepare your own death.

  2. waduh pake bahasa inggrisnya.. dulu kepikiran nulis pake bahasa inggris.. tp saya ganti deh sama bahasa indonesia. nice story on steve jobs.. salah satu pencinta steve job nih..

    1. hehe iya... saya sebenernya juga bukan pecinta2 amat sama pak Steve Jobs, cuman kalo liat perjalanan hidupnya, rasa2nya banyak yg bisa dipetik oleh generasi sekarang :)
      ini sesekali aja kok pake bhs Enggeres, regulernya tetep iLoveIndonesianLanguage :)

    I just know that Steve Jobs fired from his own company... so ironic story.
    But, we can take a lesson from his hardwork.
